Peter van Leusen is the Director of Learning Experience & Student Success in EdPlus at Arizona State University. In this role, he collaborates closely with departments and faculty on student success initiatives across diverse modalities and disciplines. His recent projects focused collaborating on adaptive curriculum and courseware development, designing MOOCs in a foreign language, and spearheading innovative digital educational experiences for broad audiences.

In his presentation he will answer questions like: How can we provide high-quality learning experience in these times of uncertainty? How do we keep educating our workforce to stay competitive and up-to-date with our rapid changing world? Join this event to learn more about digital learning opportunities that makes education effective, efficient, and engaging in various contexts.

"As COVID-19, high student costs, and lack of access to education challenge the value and role of higher education, institutions and educators need to find a way to stay current and also meet the needs of an ever-changing society. Adaptive course design offers numerous promising affordances," he says.

One on hand, adaptive learning offers promise for all learners of differing skills and abilities to be successful at their individual pace and level of understanding.

On the other hand, adaptive courses give designers the flexibility to teach and engage learners in different modalities (asynchronous/synchronous online or on-ground).

"As an institution centered on student success and access, Arizona State University started implementing adaptive courses in 2011 with enrollment in adaptive courses reaching over 30,000 learners in 2019-2020," says van Leusen.
