Join us for a important seminar and conversation about water and water rights in Arizona.

As a desert state, Arizona has always understood the importance of water—a resource so critical that protection of water rights is expressly called out in Arizona’s Constitution. Important uses of water in Arizona include municipal drinking water, industrial operations, agriculture, residential and commercial development, and environmental protection. With Arizona’s rapid growth over the past several decades, coupled with extended droughts throughout the southwestern United States, the question of whether we have enough water for current and future needs is often asked.

Thankfully, Arizona has robust water supplies, including Colorado River water, in-state surface water, groundwater, and recycled water. When drought impacts one of these sources, the others can generally be relied on to supply current needs. However, persistent drought and increasing demand can strain even these diverse sources. Meeting the resulting challenges will require careful planning, creativity, and development of additional water supplies in the coming decades.

This presentation will describe Arizona’s water resources and water laws and explain how we can prepare ourselves for future challenges and ensure our ability to meet water demands both today and into the future.

Bill Staudenmaier has been practicing water law and natural resources law for more than 30 years. He focuses on acquiring and protecting water rights for industrial, municipal, and agricultural water users. He has represented clients in general stream adjudications, negotiation of contracts for transfers of water rights, obtaining permits and approvals from state and federal regulatory agencies.

Bill represents large water users in pending general stream adjudications in Arizona - such as Gila River and Little Colorado River, as well as appellate representation on issues relating to the rights of groundwater users and tribal water rights.

He also represents clients holding contractual rights to Colorado River water, assisting those clients in securing, protecting, and defending their rights.
